About WECMIC 2021

Human Wildlife Interface in the Tropics: Current and Future Challenges

Indonesia, November 2021

All over the world, wildlife species are facing continuous threats. As many as 1,323 mammal, 1,481 bird, 1,458 reptile, 2,442 amphibian, and 3,210 fish species are on the verge of extinction (IUCN Redlist 2011). Human activities, illegal wildlife trading, invasive species and diseases, and climate change are among the factors responsible.

Given the importance of the tropical ecology for the sustainability of our planet, wildlife conservation in the tropics is a pressing matter that ought to be commanding our full attention.

WECMIC 2021 aims to identify the current condition of wildlife conservation and management activities in the tropics which include the status of research and conservation activities, international wildlife trade, human and wildlife conflicts, the application of technology in wildlife research, conservation and management activities, and the role of ex-situ conservation in preventing wildlife extinction
